Utility leaders from across the region came together at the 20th Rocky Mountain Utility Exchange in Vail, September 21-24, for a dynamic event packed with insights, inspiration, and new ideas.
One of the standout moments was the utility roundtable, which allowed for attendees to actively exchange ideas, ask questions, and share real-world solutions directly from the floor.
With nearly 200 participants, RMUE offered an environment for peer learning and meaningful connections between utility leaders and solution providers. Monday's interactive workshops focused on workforce development, electrification, drone inspections, and EV infrastructure. Tuesday’s presenters tackled grid complexity, community solar, affordable housing, and electric co-op approaches to changing member needs.
This year’s peer-led sessions examined how demand response, battery storage, and transitioning to a distribution system operator model improved grid resiliency. The event concluded on Thursday with a focus on sustainable communities, agrivoltaics, heat pump adoption, and energy-efficient construction.
Attendees praised the conference for its welcoming, collaborative environment, highlighting how valuable it was to network with peers, share common challenges, and discover new creative industry solutions.

Planning for the 2027 Rocky Mountain Utility Exchange with the Advisory Committee will begin in January, with the Call for Presenters opening early next year.
