Colorado Advocates For Rural Electrification Your Opportunity to Make a Difference About CARE CARE is a state-level political action committee (PAC) maintained in Denver and administered by CREA through the CARE Committee and membership. This money is used for candidates to the Colorado General Assembly and other statewide offices. CARE money cannot be used for local or county candidates. Decisions to support candidates are made by the CARE Committee, which is composed of seven people representing electric cooperatives from across Colorado. Who is Eligible to Join? Directors, managers, attorneys, all employees, spouses, suppliers and consumers of a rural electric system are eligible to join CARE. What is the Length of a CARE Membership? The CARE membership year runs from September 1 through August 31. If you join anytime between these two dates, your membership will be eligible for renewal on September 1. How are Funds Raised? CARE raises money through memberships from co-op members, directors and employees. CARE raises money through special fundraising activities, such as the auction held in conjunction with CREA's Annual Meeting. Is it Mandatory to Join CARE? NO! No one can force you to join CARE. If you work for a co-op, your employer or supervisor cannot coerce you into becoming a member. It's Easy to Become a CARE Member ... Make all checks payable to CARE and mail to: 5400 North Washington Street Denver, CO 80216 Payroll deduction can be used if you are a member-owner of a cooperative or a member of a cooperative affiliate, such as a credit union. Membership Classification and Dues CARE (self): $30 CARE (self & spouse): $40 Century Members: $100 You may elect to join CARE at any level. The Fair Campaign Practices Act prohibits contributions to CARE in excess of $250 per election cycle (every two years). Corporate contributions are prohibited. Political contributions are not tax-deductible. Contribution amounts are suggestions only. Any contribution amount is accepted. Action Committee for Rural Electrification (ACRE) The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) administers ACRE, a political action committee supporting federal candidates.
